Thirding

WHO WE ARE?

Established in 2020, the Thirding Studio Gallery is an artist-run gallery based in York Region, Ontario. We acknowledge that the Thirding Studio Gallery is located on the traditional territory of the Huron Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe. The gallery is committed to supporting local, national, and emerging international artists. It encourages work that engages critically within a wide range of contemporary discourse.

Thirding is an online studio gallery dedicated to creating connections with the art community in Tkaronto/Toronto. It seeks opportunities to interact and collaborate with other local cultural, institutional, and industrial organizations to showcase its artists' works in a physical space and create an art community in York Region. The Thirding Studio Gallery is devoted to equity, inclusivity, and respect for all cultural differences.

Thirding Studio Gallery reflects its diverse artist-members and supports them to consider another mode of thinking about space through their practice in the interest of constant theoretical and physical transformation of the gallery space. The way of thinking in which the creation process carries on the physical and mental spaces of the traditional dualism while stretching entirely beyond them in scope, substance, and meaning.

Thirding offers virtual studios and residencies in which artists share their process of creation with the public. Visitors can book virtual studio visits to talk with the artists about their practice.

OUR STORY

The Thirding Studio Gallery was established in 2020 in Markham, Ontario, and it is a rare and unique art studio gallery of its kind in the York Region. It started its activities as an exhibition space as well as an artist residency space where its artists are critically engaged and experience a productive and curatorial way of control over the presentation of their work. After a year, Thirding's main activities moved online. Thirding seeks opportunities to interact with other art, institution, and culture organizations locally, nationally, and internationally.
